Final Project
by Maureen Du Preez
"We have a secret in our culture, and its not that birth is painful. It's that women are strong."
I heard the call and now I've made it my life's mission to help women reclaim their power. I want them to know birth is nothing to be feared - it's an opportunity to discover the strength that's always been inside of them, waiting to be tapped into. This ancient primal force, this wild nature, has been present in womenkind since the dawn of time.
There's just been a disconnect in these modern times. We fear our bodies will fail us and allow ourselves to be tricked into believing that machines are more reliable than our instincts. We ignore the voice in our head, the feeling in our gut, that maybe there's a better way.
Through informed guidance, compassion, love, art, and encouraging the strength to break free, I wish to support women in these difficult times. Too many have gone ignored, with the most vulnerable of communities being neglected and manipulated for decades - feeling there is no alternative, that they can not speak up. I want to be their voice, as well as their companion, as they make the transition from maiden to mother.
The following images, which act as my final project, demonstrate this transition in women as seen through my eyes - beautiful, strong yet still soft, at one with nature and wild in spirit. This is how I want all women to view themselves so they have the confidence to follow their instincts so both them & their baby have the gentle birth they deserve - to create a new generation of brave, compassionate souls that will change the face of this crumbling earth.
